Backround: Usually, skeletal development and bone age in children are still examined by x-ray. In obstetrics the use of fetal ultrasonography (US) of the distal femoral epiphyseal (DFE) and proximal tibial epiphyseal (PTE) ossification centers helps to identify intrauterine growth retardation.
